If there’s anything that will save mankind from the dry dreariness that is Thanksgiving turkey, it might just be chef Joe Ng’s Peking turkey at RedFarm, purveyor of our favorite Chinese food in New York. Slather a pancake with hoisin, peanut, or cranberry sauce, throw in a few bites of meat and hide it with layers of crispy skin, then garnish with cucumber or fennel and you’ve got yourself a Thanksgiving taco, the best in town. And who am I to judge if you just pick up a wing and start gnawing? This is America.

Sesame-crusted lamb ribs with ground-bean-and-red-wine sauce melt off the bone, as our founding fathers intended.

And if you remember that scene in A Christmas Story, Chinese food has become the perfect alternative for any holiday when your studio apartment toaster oven can’t fit a turkey, when the entire feast burns, or if you’re Jewish. “Christmas is our busiest day of the year,” said RedFarm owner Ed Schoenfeld. “Over the past few years, it’s become more and more of a precedent. It’s become a fun, classic, New York story.”

RedFarm’s entire menu is still available on Thanksgiving, so don’t worry, you can still get those Pac Man dumplings. But would you look at that crab?
