The Frida Gustavsson editorial is from British Vogue, December 2010, in an issue dedicated to stars- a classic theme that never dims. I often reference back-issues of magazines for inspiration, and have files overstuffed with tear sheets from decades ago, including this one. Star style is again on trend in a bold graphic way, so here is our wishlist below as we shop the world, including a personal favorite: Paloma Picasso’s graffiti brooch from the 1980s, for classic star power.

KOTUR’s dear friend Gemma Soames’ wedding is now featured on Vogue.com. You may remember a sneak peak from this previous post, where Olivia Buckingham shared some of her personal pictures from attending this celebration. Gemma even brought our KOTUR Espey Embossed Stripe on her honeymoon in the Aeolian Islands.

——

Journalist Gemma Soames and commodities trader Andrew Ferguson met four years ago at a mutual friend’s wedding outside of Aix-en-Provence. They were seated next to each other during dinner and hit it off immediately. At the time, Gemma was living in London, and Andrew was in Hong Kong though—so two weeks later, they met in the middle, and each flew to Dubai for their first date. “He asked me to keep the weekend free and just sent a ticket,” says Gemma. “It was really quite romantic.” From then on, the couple took turns visiting each other, meeting up in Thailand and Vietnam—and then six months later, Gemma flew to Hong Kong for good, and the two have been there ever since.

After dating for a little more than a year, the jet-setters boarded a plane to Sydney to celebrate Christmas 2012, and Andrew proposed after lunch at one of his favorite restaurants, Catalina in Rose Bay, on Christmas Day. Post-proposal, they went to stay with friends on the West Coast of Australia to properly toast their engagement in wine country. Once they returned from the trip, they found out Gemma was pregnant with a baby boy and decided to delay their wedding date until 2014.

While the wedding date was a bit of a moving target, the location was always set. “There was only one place we were ever going to get married,” says Gemma. “And that was at my family home in the deepest darkest Norfolk. There is a tiny Norman church there that my great-grandparents restored with a gate that leads directly into our garden. And even though the church normally only houses a congregation of around ten people and ours was going to be around 270, we were always determined to make it work.”

The ceremony was very traditional. “It was a family affair,” says Gemma. “But we had to remove all the pews to fit everyone in, hanging most of the flowers from the ceiling to save room. Our sisters gave readings, and our son was right there too, stealing the show.”

Given the tiny church, Gemma knew her dress needed to be light, but still wanted a romantic look that was sure to make an impact. “Alice Temperley is a good friend, and when she offered to make my dress, I was thrilled,” says Gemma. “I always knew the silhouette I wanted, and Alice created a beautiful off-the-shoulder design in a soft Chantilly lace for six months, with me flying back to London from Hong Kong for fittings.”

Guests walked across the lawn from the church to the reception at Gemma’s parents’ house following the ceremony. “We had canapés, drinks, and speeches there before moving to another tent for dinner and dancing,” explains Gemma of the evening’s timeline. The Soul Jets—the house band from the Dover Street Arts Club—performed, and then they were followed by a DJ. “The next day, we had family and the guests who had flown in from all over the world back for lunch,” says Gemma.

After the wedding weekend, the newlyweds took off for the Aeolian Islands off the coast of Sicily for a honeymoon sans baby, staying first on Salina and then at the Hotel Raya in Panarea.

When it comes to your wedding day, should you be looking for inspiration for what to wear, Vogue’s latest book on weddings is a must read. Packed with beautiful images of even more beautiful brides, it’s a compendium of wedding day chic. As wedding season approaches we couldn’t help but get excited, and, for those preparing for the big day, here are three ways to wear three very different bridal looks as inspired by Vogue Weddings.

1. The Dramatic Bride: As seen on Lauren Santo Domingo, nothing does drama like a wedding gown. She wore custom Olivier Theyskens for Nina Ricci, you can find the same wow factor from these designers here. Pictures: Lauren Santo Domingo on her wedding day from Vogue Weddings, taffeta dress by Rochas, strapless Lanvin dress and tiered column dress by Giambatista Vialli all available at www.net-a-porter.com. Shoes by Rupert Sanderson, vintage diamante earrings from Susan Caplan Vintage, tulle cape by Lanvin, Louis Mariette tiara from Browns Bride and Kotur For Operation Smile available here.

2. Romantic Bride When it comes to quintessential English romance, you need to look no further than the wedding of Kate Moss for inspiration. Her custom made Galliano gown, the perfect Cotswolds setting and her bevvy of Bonpoint dressed bridemaids all made for a wedding fit for the rosiest of English roses. Pictures: Kate Moss on her wedding day from Vogue Weddings, dresses by Matthew Williamson, Temperley and Nina Ricci all from www.net-a-porter.com, Jimmy Choo shoes, veil by Lanvin, Deepa Gurnani headband, St Erasmus hair slides and Louis Mariette headpiece all from Browns Bride and Kotur lace Margo available here.

3. Relaxed Bride For a destination wedding and a relaxed, beachy feel, Cindy Crawford’s nuptials lead the way in barefoot chic. Wearing nothing but a simple neglige style shift, beach hair and a tan, the Supermodel looked divine. For a similiar (though perhaps slightly less purist look,) here’s how to work the look. Pictures: Cindy Crawford on her wedding day from Vogue Weddings, dresses by Jay Ahr, Anna Sui and Nina Ricci, Rosantica Mia earring, Gucci gold sandals and Rene Caovilla pink sandals all from www.net-a-porter.com, wishbone necklace by Jennifer Meyer and lace Margo in pink available here.

As longtime followers of Candy Pratts Price, the most esteemed Vogue Contributing Editor, onetime muse of Stephen Sprouse and general arbiter of all things fabulous, we at Kotur are always ready and eager to take her advice. Be it fashion or lifestyle, Candy has an eye for that something special that has seen millions of women through many a style trap and into the realms of the really rather great looking.

So it’s with huge excitement that we’ve seen we can apply that eagle eye of hers to homewares now, too. To raise funds for Aid for Aids, Candy has created an edited selection of truly individual, statement making and utterly stylish furniture, art and artefacts from Vintage and Modern (another one of our style crushes.) Be it a Kate Moss print, a pair of Jansen armchairs or a late 19th Century French birdcage, hers is a unique and super stylish pick of unexpected pieces that would ooze cool in any home. One would simply expect nothing less.

As Thanksgiving hits, and we’re inevitably settling in for some family time, we at Kotur like to think of paying it forward a little, in a fashionable way, of course. There are a few pieces that have recently caught our eye, things that look good and do good, and would make perfect gifts to lavish our friends and family with. Here are our picks of the three most of the most fashionable ways to give thanks this week for what we’ve got, plus a little bit back, too.

1. KOTUR for Operation Smile

This year, we teamed up with Gillian and Lydia Hearst to support Operation Smile, a charity that they are ambassadors for and I’m of the board of in Hong Kong, and that provides free surgeries to repair cleft palates, cleft lips and facial deformities for children around the globe. Our own ‘Smile’ minaudiere comes gold plated with a faceted crystal clasp and our signature brocade lining. 100% of the net proceeds for it go directly to Operation Smile. This is fashion that definitely feels good.

Kotur Smile bag, $395 from www.koturltd.com

2. Warby Parker Glasses

“Buy a pair, give a pair”

Set up by four friends, named after Jack Kerouac characters and founded on the simple ‘buy a pair, give a pair,’ principle, Warby Parker’s collection of retro inspired, effortlessly cool eyewear is where to place your smart sunglass money. Both regular eyewear and sunglasses come in easy shapes, logo free, and with the added benefit of knowing that, when you purchase your pair, someone else out there in the world who probably needs them more gets the bonus of a pair of glasses, too.

www.warbyparker.com

3. CFDA & VOGUE online auction for Sandy Relief

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, forces all over the world have mobilized to help support the relief effort. Should you wish to contribute, Vogue and the CFDA have come up with a pretty enticing way to do so.

Angelica’s role as VOGUE China Editor-in-Chief makes her the style doyenne to over a billion people. Since its inception in 2005, with news stands selling out of the first issue within days, Angelica has brought the magazine to unprecedented levels of success, making her a global fashion luminary. Typified by her signature glossy, angular black bob, Angelica’s personal style is all clean lines and – a woman after my own heart – fabulous accessories, her favourite being the bold statement necklace. Alongside heading the fashion bible of China, Angelica is also proud mother to her own little fashionista in the making, Hayley.
Angelica is my muse this month…

KOTUR: Do you have a beauty secret?
Angelica: Never to worry too much about it…

KOTUR: What do you wear on a fat day?
Angelica: I don’t have any fat days – or maybe all days are fat ones to me?

KOTUR: What’s the most treasured item in your wardrobe?
Angelica: A red dress my mother made for me when I was a teenager. I haven’t worn it in over 20 years, but I will always keep it.

KOTUR: What do you wear to bed?
Angelica: T-shirt and pajamas.

KOTUR: What is your most recent purchase?
Angelica: Necklaces from Lanvin and Marni.

KOTUR: What’s your greatest extravagance?
Angelica: Spending time with my family.

KOTUR: What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Angelica: Never to give up easily.

KOTUR: What’s your favorite smell?
Angelica: My daughter Hayley after her bath.

KOTUR: What’s your idea of a great holiday?
Angelica: Anywhere with my husband, daughter and my best friend’s family, with phones and computers firmly switched off.

KOTUR: What are you most proud of?
Angelica: My daughter, Hayley.

KOTUR: What are you least proud of?
Angelica: My quick temper.

KOTUR: Who or what would you like to be reincarnated as in your next life?
Angelica: Still Hayley’s mother.

KOTUR: What would you eat for your last supper?
Angelica: I think that would be the least of my worries!

KOTUR: Yes or no to a nip and a tuck?
Angelica: No.

KOTUR: How old is too old for a mini?
Angelica: I think it depends on the person, but for most, somewhere around 35.

KOTUR: How would you like to be remembered?
Angelica: I’ve never thought about it. Life is about the moment, and not about worrying what happens afterwards.

KOTUR: What part of your body would you like to change?
Angelica: Does getting a softer voice count?

KOTUR: What quality do you most admire in a person?
Angelica: A person is never about a single quality, it’s the mixture of many things that decide if they deserve my admiration or not.

KOTUR: If you could live in any other time for its fashion, what would you choose?
Angelica: The Sixties – in London, not China!

KOTUR: Is there anything in your wardrobe you should get rid of but can’t?
Angelica: Super high heels – I really should clear them out now.

From my earliest memory, my family has spent each summer by an idyllic lake in the Connecticut countryside, where we neighbor the Childs family – model/dancer Michelle and her husband, Star, a Yale forestry grad and environmental consultant.

Michelle Stevens Childs still looks the part of the 70’s Supermodel she once was, her VOGUE cover girl beauty has transferred unquestionably to her youngest offspring, Quincy. Today, blissfully ensconced in the countryside, Michelle teaches NIA, a California-based school of dance, from her home studio. Michelle’s pace has mellowed somewhat from her halcyon days in New York, dancing ’til dawn at Studio 54. Contrasting the sleek, sharp styling of those heady city days, Michelle is now most at ease in her work-out garb, or dressed down in denims. Country life truly suits Michelle– sartorially and personally.

Quincy Childs, the youngest of Michelle’s children, currently a Junior at prep school, is entering her 9th year performing in the Nutcracker Suite, the Christmas season’s quintessential ballet. Those enviable endless legs, and her impeccable poise, both dead give-aways of her passion for dance. Quincy’s style is casual in the nonchalant way that the off-duty ballerina wears so well, with a little glamorous dress-up thrown in for the right occasion. As you can imagine, for a girl so used to being ‘en pointe’, even the most ridiculous of stiletto heel must be a breeze.

Meet mother and daughter here…

KOTUR: What’s in your makeup bag?
Quincy Childs: Liquid eyeliner. I love eyeliner from the 60’s. But usually if I’m going to put on makeup I put on mascara and maybe under-eye concealer. Buxom Lash by Bare Escentuals is the best mascara I’ve ever used – I would definitely recommend it.
Michelle Stevens Childs: I would answer the same. I’ve even just started wearing liquid eyeliner after seeing how good my daughter looks.

KOTUR: Name your dessert island essentials?
Michelle: I think I would take my family, my dance studio, because I can’t be away from that for too long, and my animals too; everything that surrounds me right now.
Quincy: First and foremost, I want get off the island somehow, so I probably take a Genie and a lamp. I would have to say my iPod, and I have these really obnoxious headphones. I warm up to ballet with music, I can’t really warm up any other way.

K: When home alone, what do you wear?
M: Well I wear dance clogs and my skinny white jeans and a sweater.
K: How about you Quincy?
Q: I always wear socks, which is kind of weird but honestly, if I don’t have company I always wear my socks.

K: Michelle, is there a most treasured item in your wardrobe?
M: Things from my mother. I would never part with them. She had a beautiful style. She lived in a small town in Oklahoma and she had a sophistication of her own. Back then, they had trunk shows quite often, designers like Oscar de la Renta would come to Oklahoma City, and people will gather and buy the clothes. That’s how I learned designer labels when I was very young.
Q: Actually my most treasured item are my mom’s mother’s Italian high knee boots from the 1970s. I guess all of our treasured items are from my grandmother, and we are all the same size feet, so…

K: How high is too high a heel?
M: For me, too high heel is when I can’t straighten my legs and stand up at the same time, it’s ridiculous.
Q: As for me, I don’t know, nothing is as painful as point shoes for ballet, as I need to be on my toes all day. I feel like a really high heel will always be a luxury as far as comfort goes!

K: Can you judge a book by its cover?
M: No I don’t think so. It’s sort of a cliché that’s not really true. I think you’d be better off reading the back summary.
Quincy: Yes I definitely agree with my mom.

K: What’s your greatest extravagance?
M: My husband. Haha…He’s pretty extravagant in his own right… No I would say if I want to pamper myself, it’s with facials.
K: And how about you Quincy?
Q: I guess I have a lot of perfume because I always buy a perfume and then get bored of it, and want to buy another one. I guess that would be my biggest extravagance. I really have far too many, but I just love perfume.

K: What are your guilty pleasures?
M: I love, Quincy and I both love, Dairy Queen.
Q: There’s a really big Dairy Queen right next to our ballet school ironically, and we pretty much go every other night.

K: What’s the best advise you’ve ever been given?
M: For me I think it’s that beauty comes from within.
Q: For me, I don’t know, I think people live their lives too quickly, so I think it’s important just to enjoy the little things.

K: What are your bad habits?
M: I eat a lot of chocolate, I think chocolate is my weakness.
Q: Okay, well I think I just spend a lot of time online shopping but not actually buying anything, more like browsing on net-a-porter, and shopbop. And I like reading fashion blogs and music blogs, scouting on the internet for new music… I spend a lot of time doing that – too much time!

K: What are you least proud of?
M: My technical stupidity! I don’t understand technology as well as I would like…
Q: My main thing would be starting a book, and actually finishing it… right now I am in the middle of 7.

K: What is your pure bliss?
M: Pure bliss would be by my husband, Star. He’s blissful to me.
Q: I would say being on stage for me, just because it’s Nutcracker season; definitely there is no other feeling like it, it’s really special.

K: Who would you like to reincarnated in your next life?
Q: OMG that’s really hard!
Michelle: My life has been so great; I think I would just be myself all over again. My modeling career was so good to me. It’s just I think I did it at a right time for myself, on a personal level, and the industry was wonderful to me. Arthur Elgot is my hero, just the most amazing photographer. It just has put me in contact with so many wonderful people and places.

KOTUR: If you like to meet someone from history, who would that be?
Quincy: If I could meet someone, and I say this maybe because I’m a dancer, it would definitely be George Balanchine. I’d love to meet him.
K: How about you Michelle?
M: I’d like to meet the artist Georgia O’Keeffe. I love her work. She’s so interesting.

K: Yes or no to nip and tuck?
M: 90% no, and maybe time will alter that response, but at the moment, 90% no.
Quincy: It really depends – I don’t judge anyone who does or who doesn’t.

KOTUR: What would you like to achieve before you die?
Quincy: Well I guess I’d like to make my parents proud in whatever I do.
Michelle: I think I would just like to achieve a happy, healthy life for not only myself, but for my family, in whatever way I can make that happen. Happiness and health go hand in hand…

KOTUR: Favourite Kotur bag?
Quincy: We have 2, and we claim the both of them.
Michelle: We have the Black evening clutch, that’s Quincy’s favorite, that used to in my closet and now it’s always in Quincy’s…
Quincy: And also a Jardine’s clutch in woven straw that also travels back and forth between us…

KOTUR:On a scale 1 to 10, how good looking are you?
Michelle: It’s not a good day to answer that question!
Quincy: I don’t know. No one is 10, no one is 0… you can’t put number on looks.

Rita Konig first caught my eye when she was on the cover of Brooke de Ocampo and Jonathan Becker’s book, Bright Young Things. Since then I have followed her decorating and journalistic pursuits which include her best-selling books Domestic Bliss: Simple Ways to Add Style to Your Life and Rita’s Culinary Trickery. Her columns also regularly grace the pages of magazines like BritishVogue and Harper’s Bazaar.

We recently met for lunch with a mutual friend and I loved her poetic aesthetic and charm. We both hail from creative mothers and she has a self-deprecating Bridget Jones humor, which being half Brit myself, I appreciate. I chose her as a muse for her whimsical style and spirit, and her great knowledge of design history. And she tells a great story…

KOTUR: What’s in your makeup bag?
Rita: Lots of lip glosses and NARS lipsticks- my favorite is Damage. Also Jo Malone Vitamin E Gel.

KOTUR: Do you have a beauty secret?
Rita: Good lighting!

KOTUR: What do you wear on a fat day?
Rita: I have this magenta tie-dye cashmere scarf I bought at I Pezzi Dipinti which is quite handy. I also think jewellery for a fat day is quite good. It makes you feel better and it keeps everyone’s eyes up here, around your face.

KOTUR: How would your female friends describe your style?
Rita: I think they’d say I was chic but I’m a mess all the time…definitely a bit of a tumble together.

KOTUR: Is there anything in your wardrobe you should get rid of but can’t?
Rita: My grandmother’s couture Dior dresses that don’t fit me. They would only fit a generation of stick people I will never give birth to…

KOTUR: What do you never leave home without?
Rita: My telephone. And I try to remember my door keys.

KOTUR: What do you wear to bed?
Rita: Mostly, nothing.

KOTUR: Have you ever worn anything you’re now embarrassed by?
Rita: Yes, almost everything when I look back at old pictures of myself.

KOTUR: How high is too high a heel?
Rita: I don’t think it exists. Too high is impossible to walk in, but sometimes I do it anyway. Even if they don’t get worn, I’ll eventually display them up on the mantle piece.

KOTUR: If you could live in any other time in fashion, what would you choose?
Rita: I’d like to have been Georgian because it was the most beautiful time- art, architecture, dresses and jewellery. I think in England, it was our best moment.

KOTUR: What’s your most recent purchase?
Rita: Well, yesterday I bought a pair of Marc Jacobs pants and a Celine stripey top. But before that there was a Lanvin maxi skirt…

KOTUR: Can you judge a book by its cover?
Rita: I judge every book by its cover.

KOTUR: What’s your great extravagance?
Rita: Bed linen and the endless laundering of it. I like Percale sheets – it’s like sleeping on paper – or Egyptian cotton. And old linen that’s been washed a lot.

KOTUR: Guilty pleasure?
Rita: Movies on Sunday mornings.

KOTUR: What are your bad habits?
Rita: Too many to list…pudding?

KOTUR: Cheap thrill?
Rita: Swedish Fish sweets.

KOTUR: The best advice you have ever given?
Rita: Never accept the first offer.

KOTUR: What’s your idea of a great holiday?
Rita: Not moving much.

KOTUR: What are you most proud of?
Rita: I think my books.

KOTUR: What do you least proud of?
Rita: My lack of being able to get down to it and go to the gym.

KOTUR: What’s your idea of pure bliss?
Rita: Sinking into a hot bath when it’s cold and snowing outside.

KOTUR: Who would you like to be reincarnated as?
Rita: I think one of those adventurous 18th century women.

KOTUR: Yes or no to nip and tuck?
Rita: I kind of think slightly yes, but it scares me to go under anesthesia for vanity.

KOTUR: What part of your body would you change?
Rita: Oh, my legs for sure, and maybe my arse. You couldn’t put my current arse on top of very good legs. I can cope with the rest.

KOTUR: How would you like to be remembered?
Rita: I would like to just be remembered actually…

KOTUR: 1 out of 10, how good looking are you?
Rita: That’s horrible. I’m English, so I can’t possibly answer.

I spent an evening with Anna Dello Russo recently – Lane Crawford, one of Hong Kong’s chicest shopping venues, invited Anna to be fairy godmother for a day – a fantastical shopping spree with fashion’s iconic style mentor.
Of course I have followed Anna and her work for ages, with Vogue Nippon and Vogue Italia – she is old-Hollywood, Italian-style. So honored was I when KOTUR’s mosaic mirror d’Abo made its way onto Anna’s arm, and into the Paris and Milan fashion shows.
Self effacing and funny, bright and sincere – Anna is completely aware of her artifice – acting more as artist, director and producer than movie star… j’ADR!

FK: What’s in your make-up bag?….
Anna Dello Russo: Not much…I don’t wear much makeup. The older I get, the less I wear. People think the opposite, but makeup makes you look older. On me, I look like a drag queen. You have to have good face – perfect lips, perfect eyes – if you want to wear makeup, otherwise, it looks like a mask. It’s like a drawing, it has to be perfectly done. For me, my face is not so good, but my body is incredible…

FM: Do you have a beauty secret?
ADR: I always like tanned – my wish is to be Giselle. You know this kind of girl, like beautiful Brazilian. Because I am from Southern Italy, sunny girl, I get tanned or wear tanned makeup. But real beauty comes from the inside – see this color (pointing to her cheek) – this is the perfect color. I do so much yoga and swim everyday, and that makes me the best color skin… there is no make-up to create this color skin.

FM: What do you wear on a fat day?
ADR: What is this? A day you don’t feel so good? I do the opposite. If I feel bad, I will get dressed up, because it makes me lift my spirit. The more I feel bad, the more I prove myself in the opposite way: I put [on] a high heel, I take a short dress…

FM: How do your friends describe your style?
ADR: Like a transvestite… You know, 10 years ago I used to go clubbing, always clubbing, clubbing – to gay clubs. One night, during dancing, I hear “I know the truth, you are woman transvestite” and I said, “I tell you the truth, I am transvestite like you…” and we laugh and he says to his friends “I knew it!”, and every Saturday I would go to the club because they all want to see my look…

FM: What’s the most treasured item in your wardrobe?
ADR: I collect clothes…it’s not about this piece, another piece…all of them are a treasury. It’s an entire collection….

FM: Name your desert island essentials?
ADR: Lots of stuff… I will need a camel to carry my collection. No – LOTS of camels!

FM: Is there anything in your wardrobe you should get rid of?
ADR: Are you crazy?! Tell you a story, my nieces are female, of course – 4 nieces… Every one comes to me and asks, “Will you please leave me your entire clothes when you die?” – “I will, I will, I will, I will” I say, but very finally I think, I cannot give to anyone. Because, you know, it’s my full life. I think I will be Tutankhamun. One day, I will put everything with me in a vault, a cave.

FM: How high is too high a heel?
ADR: I can tell you, not too high, because my favorite is 11mm, without a platform, otherwise you cannot walk like natural, or in a sexy way, which I hate.

FM: How old is too old for jeans?
ADR: I want to tell you, jeans is not my favorite piece. When I used to be young, everybody used to wear jeans. “Listen, I give you my pair of jeans, you give me your grandmother’s jacket”, because, even then, I was always looking for luxury pieces.
Of course, jeans is part of our world. If you are skinny, if you have a beautiful body, you can wear it anytime. It depends about the fit. For me, jeans needs to fit very well.

FM: How old is too old for a mini?
ADR: How young [are] your legs?

FM: Who would you like to be reincarnated as?
ADR: Lady Gaga – I would love to be a singer, a famous pop star.

FM: Yes or no to nip and tuck?
ADR: Oh yes, absolutely. I am transvestite, I can’t live without…

FM: Which of the various KOTUR bags is your favorite?
ADR: I like the little clutches, the one with stars – like Napoleon!

FM: What do you wear to bed alone?
ADR: It depends on the season… but I always sleep with my dog, Cucciolina.

FM: How about with your boyfriend?
ADR: Sexy stuff…I cannot even tell you because this is secret….
