For those who are fans of a print (and especially if, like us, you like to take several at once and wear them together for maximum impact,) then Duro Olowu’s brand new launch at JC Penney will be something of a shopping treasure trove. The Nigerian born, London based designer is famous for his standout prints and work in technicolour. Brought to our attention by my sister some years ago, graphic patterns, floral designs, block prints and embellishment all make a play in his annual collection, giving a look that’s as distinctive as it is for the fashion brave. Now, all those qualities make a play in his just launched range for JC Penney, too. Covering clothing, jewelry and homewares, his designs for the US retailer stay true to his technicolour tendencies whilst coming in at extremely appealing prices (starting at $10.) Check out our gallery of collection for some highlights. Dalmation print cardi teamed with a burnished gold pencil skirt? Who could possibly say no?

Long a Kotur favorite, when it comes to nailing what we need in our closets, J Crew is simply the gift that keeps on giving. Their latest presentation for Fall 2013, shown last week in the Lincoln Centre was absolutely no different.

In a collection that played to the brands strengths (luxurious fabrics, mannish tailoring, cool prints and a brilliant take on evening dressing that even the most manic of us would have time to pull of at some point between work and dinner,) there was plenty to put on our shopping lists. First up on ours are their party trousers (officially our favorite nightime look of choice – pair with a pointy pump, and you’re done,) their printed sweaters and their coats (just the right mix of quirky and classic). Click through our gallery above to see our favorite looks from the collection, plus check out our previous interview with the brilliant Jenna Lyons here.

Just when those January blues start to smack and our swathes of cashmere begin to lose appeal, fashion hits us with a fresh injection. The Resort collections are the place to look for the sparkle your winter wardrobe might be missing – colour, texture and more than a little bit of pizazz are all over shop shelves. Here’s our pick of the key trends, and how we’ll be wearing them.

1. Plenty of print. According to resort this year, it’s all about mixing and matching, bold colours, a touch of neon and smattering of texture. Pair this Peter Pilotto Dress with our Morley in citron snakeskin, and you’ll have the boxes ticked.

2. White magic. For freshness, you can’t beat clean, crisp white. Wear this Burberry dress with our Joret for a breath of fresh air in clothing form.

3. Loving Ladylike. Prettiness reigns for Resort. Not least with this floral number from Alice and Olivia. Perfect for pairing with our Margo in Lizard.

KOTUR’s New Collection for Spring Summer will launch on this site January 15th. We’re too excited to keep it completely …

KOTUR’s New Collection for Spring Summer will launch on this site January 15th. We’re too excited to keep it completely hidden until then, though. So here’s a little precursor of the pieces to come, some thoughts on the collection, and also our Kotur illustrations, done for us every year by my very own mother.

With springtime comes florals, but at Kotur we approached this classic theme from a new direction for SS13. Embarking on a more unusual garden tour, we opened the door to a more surreal natural world, finding beauty and surprise in new ways, with new materials, and with bursts of shocking color.

Through a series of micro collections, Cyber Garden, Secret Garden, Savage Garden, Pop Garden and Retro Garden, you’ll find classic shapes reworked and re-imagined. There’s our classic Espey minaudiere in gold plate and smattered in confectionary looking flowers. We created sequin flower ‘bonnets’, covering minaudieres to look like jeweled, vintage swim caps. Neon treads over floral jacquards give an unexpected look that’s pretty and cool in equal bounds. African printed fabrics and colored python lend a tribal take, or for the ultimate pop of color, neon sequined patchworks give plenty of bang for their buck.

The overall effect is supernatural, super pretty, a bit off-balance and perfect for a pop of color. It’s a season in which to find what you fancy where you least expect it. We hope you have as much fun doing that as we have.
