When it comes to a woman’s accessories, few can dispute the innate power they command. The perfect kitten heel, an enchanting clutch, a wild stiletto: each carry with them a story of origin and the ability to transform an outfit, conversation or evening. By most fashion standards, accessories are, in and of themselves, art pieces.

It is that very sentiment which drives today’s style spotlight on Fiona Kotur Marin. Fiona, the founder and CEO of world-renowned brand, Kotur, has an incredible eye for design and possesses the unteachable understanding of how to mix intricate design with elevated class. She is, in not so many words, an artist and also the purveyor of a style that can best be described as creative glamour.

We took a few moments to delve a bit more into Fiona and her personal tastes, styles and the cause that gets her going.

Job Title: CEO and Creative Director of KOTUR

Where are you from? New York City, but have lived between New York and Hong Kong for the past decade.

What’s a cause that you care deeply about? FilmAid

Why is FilmAid so important to you? FilmAid does great work by using the power of film and media to transcend language and literacy, bringing life-saving information, psychological relief and much-needed hope to refugees and other communities in need around the globe. We launched a FilmAid clutch in 2012, where all net sales proceeds went directly to the charity. We are more than happy to support again as they are a truly worthwhile cause.

Describe your style in three words: Accessories, accessories, accessories

Style-wise, what’s your favorite time period in history? The 1920s, Art Deco and the F. Scott Fitzgerald period, from the clothing to the decorative arts.

It’s Sunday, what are you wearing to brunch? I have four active sons, so Sundays start early and meals take place shuttling between soccer fields and basketball courts. But one day when my life is civilized enough for Sunday brunch, I will celebrate by wearing a turban, a caftan and lots of jewelry.

Who is your style icon? Iris Apfel

What was your first fashion splurge? Robert Clergerie’s slippers in 1987 when I was still a student. I took a campus job just to pay for them.

Do you have a favorite trend of the moment? I tend to follow people with individual style rather than trends.

What’s your ideal vacation destination? Seminyak, Bali. At Ku De Ta on the beach at sunset, watching the children play in the waves. With a strong cocktail.

What’s one item in your wardrobe could you not live without? My mother’s original 1920’s flapper dress.

We have an incredible KOTUR collection live on Fashion Project with items that Fiona has graciously donated, including two shoe styles that have been seen on Leslie Mann and Jessica Alba. When you shop the collection today, you can join Fiona in her quest to support FilmAid.
