FASHION

I live in Hong Kong, so I like to take advantage of the opportunity to buy things for my family in the United States that they can’t get over there. Tabla in Prince’s Building is my favorite source for caftans, cashmere, scarves, and accessories—they’re always elegant and unique. Most pieces are limited edition—when I wear mine, people constantly stop me to ask where they can find the same ones.

BEAUTY

Lane Crawford and Joyce Beauty have the best assortments of products in Hong Kong, from Estée Lauder (I recommend Advanced Night Repair) to boutique brands like Tatcha (the exfoliating Rice Enzyme Powder and Camellia Cleansing Oil are my favorites) and Kate Somerville (for her Dermal Quench and Quench Hydrating Face Serum).

ONLINE

Blue Carreon Home is my go-to for interior décor gifts, and I love founder Blue Carreon’s coffee table book, Conversations. This year I will also be ordering London Burning: Portraits from a Creative City by Maryam Eisler and Hossein Amirsadeghi.

FLOWERS

Ellerman Flower Boutique, which has locations on Tung Street in Sheung Wan and in Landmark. Diane Beatrice Nittke owns it, and every arrangement reflects her individuality and coveted personal style: creative, whimsical, and elegant.

CLASSICS

For Christmas dinner, I order my turkey from the Mandarin Oriental Hotel—it’s a classic, cooked to perfection, and it comes delivered in a giant hatbox! And I always get an entire wheel of Stilton from iGourmet.com, which I look forward to all year long. The cheese looks festive when served with figs and fruit and Port, and it can last for a week of celebrations.

LOCAL TREAT

Hong Kong’s famous egg tarts from Tai Cheong Bakery in Central are not to be resisted!

TEA HOUSE

My children turned me on to bubble tea, so I tend to gravitate toward these tea houses instead of the traditional Chinese ones. My regular place is Chinese Herbal Collections at 88 Stanley Street, Central.

KOTUR MERRICK GEOMETRIC CLUTCH AND ESPEY BONNE CHANCE CLUTCH
MANICURE

For pre-party nail grooming, I love The Nail Library. The environment is soothing, the manicurists are skilled, and their product offerings are broad, from Tom Ford and Deborah Lippman to many niche brands, with the most current colors. I go to the 6 Po Hing Fong location in Sheung Wan, but they also have The Loft in Central.

HAIRCUT

I go to Shayne Chandler at Salon Chandler. He and his team—Jason, Tim, and JP—also do color and keratin treatments, which save my life in the humidity.

COLOR

I love Hervé at Il Colpo salon and Kim Robinson at his eponymous salon in Chater House Central. It’s hard to find a colorist in Hong Kong who’s really great with blond hair, but both of these guys are (they’re also wonderful with cuts).

FACIAL

My regimen is admittedly sporadic, but I have gotten the best facials at The Oriental Spa in theLandmark Mandarin Oriental.

SPA DAY

The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel—I love the Chinese Wellness Ritual, which is the signature treatment.

MASSAGE

Happy Foot is on every Hong Konger’s speed dial. I go regularly for a lymphatic drainage massage at the Lyndhurst Terrace location.

TAILOR

If I need a party ensemble adjusted, I take it to Lydia in Central, who can fix or alter anything. For the past thirteen years, I owe all my wardrobe tailoring to her.

COBBLER

The second stall behind Pedder Building is where I go to resole my shoes. There are several cobblers on this lane, and all will do the trick. I usually look at what they have on their finished racks to check out their work.

WORKOUT

I like Anhao for its intimate pilates and yoga classes. It’s a small studio with great instructors. I also recommend Beth Narain, a former dancer and personal trainer, for expert care. (Great for working off the holiday-induced pounds.)

RECOVERY FOOD

Punch Detox juices—they deliver!

HOTEL

Upper House for Andre Fu’s chic serene design under the superb management of GM Marcel Thoma, or the Mandarin Oriental for old-world Hong Kong charm.

DAYTIME ACTIVITY

Hiking, just twenty minutes away from the middle of Central. Go to Violet Hill and try the 1,000 steps for a real workout and a great view.

NOT-TO-BE-MISSED SIGHT

Star Ferry. It’s on every tour list, but I never tire of the ride, especially at night. You want to be on the upper deck for the most beautiful view. There is also a great children’s smocked clothing shop in the TST upper deck terminal that’s worth checking out.
