As the witching hour approaches and the great and the good of the fashion industry set their minds to one of their most important tasks of the year (What does one wear to the Met Gala…? Obviously…) we couldn’t help but think of what kind of look we would go for this time round. Would it be Saint Laurent inspired sultry (ever so fitting for this year’s Punk theme,) would it be fashion forward (all the better for pleasing that particularly tough crowd,) or would it be Gala staple pretty, ball gowns from De La Renta et al that are designed for big fashion moments such as these. Here are the three options laid out for you to choose from. Met Gala Glamour – which way would you work it?

1. Sultry Chic – As inspired by Saint Laurent, and particularly fitting for this year’s ‘Punk: Chaos to Couture’ exhibit, coming over all moody on the red carpet could be quite the way to make a statement (not to mention incredibly Spring Summer 2013…) Pictures: Catwalk, Saint Laurent SS13, Rochas bustier red and black dress, Alexander McQueen corseted dress and embellished prom style black dress by Jason Wu all from www.matchesfashion.com, red and black printed chiffon dress by Saint Laurent, leather bodiced and tulle gown from Valentino and Loree Rodkin earrings all from www.net-a-porter.com, gold belted gown by Alexander McQueen, Saint Laurent sandals and Kotur Pearce clutch available here.

2. Fashion Forward: Make a statement with the it crowd wearing this seasons’s hottest designers and statement making looks – no wallflowers need apply here… Pictures: Catwalk, Jason Wu SS13, Roksanda Illincic pink and black gown and Christopher Kane printed chiffon dress from www.net-a-porter.com, Marios Schwab crystal embellished gown, Tom Binns earrings, Alexander McQueen choker and Alaia nude sandals all from www.matchesfashion.com, Kotur Espey in sand available here.

Sheer. Sounds terrifying, looks rather chic. A trend with as many pitfalls as it has upshots, it is nevertheless abundant this season. But, if peekaboo dresses and see through shirts seem not at all your thing, luckily the runways have given ample inspiration when it comes to ways to work sheer whilst still protecting your modesty. Here are three routes we’ll be taking to follow their lead.

1. Sheer panelled skirts

Suggestive rather than overtly sexy, sheer panelled skirts like those seen at Temperley look way more feminine than they do flirty. Go for demure lengths with cutout panels (lace works here too,) pair them with simple tops, and you’re set. Pictures: Catwalk, Temperley SS13, full skirt also by Temperley, white lace skirt by Tibi and Etro red silk T shirt all from www.net-a-porter.com, jacquard top, crystal venus fly trap necklace and red shoes all from www.jcrew.com, Kotur Margo in floral lace available here.

2. The Peekaboo Dress

As seen at Akris and most noticeably at Stella, cocktail dresses with mesh inserts were crafted in cool, minimal shapes for Spring to deliver a look that’s way more chic than it is cutesy. Keep your hemlines longer and your accessories grown up for the latest way to make an evening statement. Pictures: Catwalk Akris SS13, orange panelled dress and black sheer dress both Stella McCartney, Preen printed dress and Givenchy colour block shoes from www.net-a-porter.com, ring and cuff both Saint Laurent, Kotur Pearce minaudière available here.

3. The Sheer Blouse

There’s nothing quite as sexy as a sheer blouse, just as Valentino and Saint Laurent, who both featured them heavily on their catwalks. Pair yours with slimline trousers (red leather adds a rocking edge) and Kotur’s own knockout take on the sheer trend, our perspex Glitter Globe clutch, and you’re doing rock chick for right now. Pictures: Catwalk: Valentino SS13, black lace top also by Valentino, lace blouse with nude cami by Red Valentino, red leather Miu Miu pants and Pierre Hardy shoes all from www.net-a-porter.com, hummingbird blouse by Alexander McQueen, earrings by Lara Bohinc and clutch, Kotur’s Glitter Globe available here.

As huge supporters of FilmAid Asia, we were thrilled to go along to their incredible gala dinner, held last Saturday …

As huge supporters of FilmAid Asia, we were thrilled to go along to their incredible gala dinner, held last Saturday in Hong Kong’s Clearwater Bay Film Studios, the region’s most prolific film centre. Hosted by Donnie Yen, one of China’s biggest film stars, and with a special appearance from Uma Thurman, who flew in especially to show her support, it was a starry night with a standup purpose.

Guests arrived to the industrial space to be greeted by a jazz quartet and lashings of champagne, courtesy of Moet, FilmAid’s partners for the evening. With the great and the glamorous out in force (many carrying Kotur, we are pleased to report,) it was a star studded affair. Sophie Ellis Bextor, in town to sing at the Gala’s after party, paired her stunning outfit with Kotur’s special FilmAid clutch, as did Josie Ho and Uma Thurman.

Clearwater Bay studios were transformed for the evening, filled with huge long tables adorned with flowers (and yes, more champagne,) for a delicious dinner topped off with the most sensational deserts (most definitely one of our personal highlights.) The auction raised $3.5million Hong Kong dollars, all of which will go towards the charity’s brilliant work using the power of film to bring lifesaving information and much needed hope to refugees around the world. Lots such as tickets the Roland Garros tennis tournament, a heli-skiing trip and a series of Moet magnums signed by Uma Thurman and delivered with a kiss, proved predictably popular.

After dinner, it was all about the after party, where dancing continued until 3 am. Guests left with a specially designed FilmAid Asia tote – a goody bag filled with Santa Maria Novella cologne, Aesop products, Laduree chocolates, C Wonder speakers, Moet and much, much more. Its was a fittingly glamorous finish to an extremely glamorous evening.

Click through our gallery above to see pictures from the night.

Kotur for FilmAid Asia

Throughout the night, Kotur’s FilmAid Pearce clutches were on sale. The two special editions of our Pearce minaudière have been designed especially for the charity, with all proceeds from their sales going directly to FilmAid Asia and are available to buy on our website here.

Fresh from the shows and via LA, the British Fashion Council brought their hottest young designers to Hong Kong this week to showcase their new collections and peddle their rather fabulous wares. Clear from the get go was the message that Spring for them is a season in which to make a statement. Powerful prints from Peter Pilotto, sexy sequins from Jonathan Saunders and jewels with attitude from Dominic Jones could have all walked happily off their rails and instantly into our closets. These were wearable fashion statements, every single one.

We particularly loved Roksanda Illincic’s form flattering dresses – so demure yet sexy, and perfectly doable for day or night. In an ideal world we’d be pairing this one with Nicholas Kirkwood’s new ice cream colored peep toe lace ups and our Kotur Pearce clutch. Long live London’s latest fashion moment!
