The World of KOTUR: Three ways to wear: The St Tropez Look

As far as holiday destinations go, St Tropez on the French Riviera is right up there when it comes to iconic hot spots. From the sixties heyday of Brigitte Bardot onwards, the place has been known as the spot the glam squad like to head to in Europe. Whether it’s Bardot style vintage chic or the more full on fashion approach (as shown here by today’s diva, Beyonce,) it’s a place that demands a lot from your beachside or promenade look. Here are three ways you could take inspiration from those who know how to work the St Tropez look.

1. Print Extravaganza: As seen on Beyonce, the modern way to make a St Tropez statement is by going all out in a print cacophony. Pair tiny shorts with a clashing shirt and plenty of bling for the full on look – or switch your printed top for a simple safari shirt for an easier take on the look. 2. Brigitte Bardot Chic: As synonymous with St Tropez as yachts and rose, Bardot was and still is the poster girl for a particularly Riviera friendly take on vintage chic. Work the daytime look with a simple fitted, corset style top and capri pants for the easiest way to be like Bardot this summer. The World of KOTUR: Brilliant Batiks

As fans of print, we are always trying to source new and unusual fabrics to work with every season. For Spring, that journey took us to Indonesia, where we collaborated with local foundation Cita Tenun Indonesia on a series of very special bags.

Cita Tenun works to preserve and encourage the development of indigenous textile weaving techniques found in regions across the country. Working directly with womens groups, Cita Tenun gathers their extraordinary works together and sells them as a collective – ensuring a fair price for producers and giving these amazing weavers access to a global market. At Kotur we were particularly taken by their Endek fabric, a traditional Balinese product associated once upon a time with Princes and aristocracy. Still woven in the hills of the island, it is a woven ikat that makes for standout bags – and has a wonderful sense of craft about it. For Spring, we reworked our Margo in it’s brilliant weave featuring several different colourways. They are available online exclusively here.

When it comes to a trend ideally suited for summer, Luxe Boho is pretty much on the money. A favorite of designers when they turn to beach friendly looks, this season it appears again, with a small sheen of gloss over it. From floaty palazzo pants to sleek maxis and tunic style minis, the key elements of this Summer’s take on the trend are glossy and really rather glamorous. Alarming as it may sound, tangerine and lemon yellow are big colours for this Summer, coming in glamorous iterations down various runways including the extremely ladylike ones of Carolina Herrera and Tory Burch. Long a colour associated more with childrenswear than adults, how to pull of proper brights whilst still seeming chic still presents a bit of a conundrum, however. Taking our cue from the Mrs Burch and Herrera, however, there is a route through the chaos that can be citrus to a chic summer look. Using simple, sleek and feminine shapes in knockout brights creates a summery fashion wardrobe sure to make a statement and tick the trend boxes, too. Here are three ways we’ll be working the Citrus look.

1. Lemon Yellow: In perhaps the easiest iteration of citrus, lemon yellow as seen at Diane von Furstenberg manages to be bright and pretty all at the same time. Go for minimal, clean shapes, avoid anything fussy and pair with sleek metallic accessories to keep it looking sophisticated. There isn’t much that’s more summery than a lovely floral dress. Perfect for parties, beaches, daywear and more, the right one normally proves to be the hardest working item in your summer wardrobe. This season, there are severel ways to work that very dress, florals coming in different iterations for a colourful take on hot weather dressing. Whether dark and moody, a la Yves Saint Laurent or something all together more sugary as inspired by Oscar de la Renta, here are three ways we’ll be working our summer florals this year.

1. As seen at cocktail dress maestro Oscar de la Renta’s show, pretty pastels do florals in a very flattering and lovely, traditional light. Add a little bit of edge to your floral dresses with accessories that give a bit of a pop for a garden party approach to daytime dressing. It’s one of the standout (and most appealing) trends of Spring Summer 2013, but it’s also one of the trickiest. How to tackle brights, dipping several toes in the sunnier side of fashion, whilst still pulling off a look that is chic and grown up appropriate takes quite some doing. With saturated colors appearing all over the catwalks, however, now is the time to try. Here are three ways we’ll be working color into our Spring wardrobe.

1. Color Block: Should you take your cue from Burberry it’s extremely evident that classic, demure shapes (pencil skirts and blouses especially,) in block clashing colours create a look that’s grabbing and grown up all at the same time. As the world gets increasingly excited about Baz Luhrman’s new Great Gatsby, we at Kotur have also been struck down with Gatsby Fever.
